'Feels Like Home'

Serenity Recovery workshops | June 4

Posted

Participants from Serenity Recovery explored the meaning of home through poetry and visual art during “Feels Like Home” workshops June 4 at the Murray Art Guild. The sessions encouraged participants to reflect on their experiences, experiment with new forms of expression and create work that was later included in the public exhibition.

“Feels Like Home” was a collaborative arts project for adults in recovery from addiction that used poetry and visual art to explore the many meanings of home. The project included workshops with participants from Neartown Recovery and Serenity Recovery and culminated in a public exhibition at the Murray Convention and Visitors Bureau in August.

The project was funded through a $5,000 Arts Access Assistance: Arts and Health grant awarded to The Murray Sentinel by the Kentucky Arts Council and carried out in partnership with the Murray Art Guild, Neartown and Serenity. Award-winning playwright and poet Constance Alexander led the poetry workshops, while MAG Executive Director Debi Henry Danielson led the visual arts workshops.
