MURRAY – Calloway County Schools has announced that Lynsey Smith will be hired as the next principal of Southwest Calloway Elementary School. Smith will take over at Southwest this summer for Melinda Hendley, who has served as interim principal since January.
Smith currently serves the district as an assistant principal at Calloway County High School. She was previously the district’s director of special education for four years. Before becoming an administrator, Smith was an elementary teacher at North Calloway Elementary School. She has a total of 22 years of experience in education.
Smith has two Master’s degrees and a Bachelor’s degree, all from Murray State University.
“Lynsey has been an outstanding educator in our district for many years,” said Superintendent Tres Settle. “She’s been successful in every role at our district, and I’m excited to see what she will bring to Southwest. The students, their parents, and the staff at Southwest are getting a superb leader.”
Smith is originally from Dawson Springs. Her husband, Jesse Smith, is a teacher at North Calloway Elementary School. They live in Murray and have two daughters, River and Stella.
“I am deeply grateful for this opportunity and excited to step into the role as principal of Southwest Calloway Elementary,” Smith said. “I am committed to serving this school community and look forward to working collaboratively to support our students, staff, and families as we continue to grow and excel.”
