MURRAY โ A Murray insurance agent was arrested Wednesday after Graves County authorities accused him of taking more than $10,000 from a church for insurance policies that detectives say were never purchased.
Glen โDavidโ Ramey, 59, of Murray, was charged with fraudulent insurance acts involving $10,000 or more and theft by failure to make required disposition of property over $10,000, according to a Wednesday afternoon Facebook post from the Graves County Sheriffโs Office (GCSO).
Ramey is the owner of David Ramey Insurance Company in Murray. According to the post, detectives apprehended Ramey at his business, located* on N 12th Street, at approximately 10:40 a.m. Wednesday.
The charges stem from an investigation in which detectives alleged that an unnamed church in Graves County was defrauded of more than $10,000. According to the post, the church paid for insurance coverage, but the agent โ later identified by detectives as Ramey โ did not purchase the property and liability policies.
Detectives assert that Ramey misused funds paid for the purpose of purchasing insurance policies beginning in 2022 and continuing to the present.
โIn some cases, policies were never obtained for the victim, leaving the victim in this case with no coverage whatsoever,โ the post stated.
The Kentucky Department of Insurance (KDI) assisted with the investigation.
Ramey was initially taken to the Graves County Restricted Custody Center and later transported to an out-of-county detention center, GCSO said. The agency added that the investigation remains ongoing by both its office and KDI.
