Candidate statement

I am Rose Ross. Number 5 on the ballot. I am a retired high school math teacher with 8 years experience on the Murray City Council. I am dedicated to remaining a good steward of the public’s money. I am chair of the Long Range Planning Committee and will continue to work tirelessly for this community. I am running, literally and figuratively. I make the health of our community a priority.

Questions and answers

In your opinion, who is the most underserved population in Murray? How would you use your position on the city council to address their needs?

I believe residents struggling to find affordable housing are among Murray’s most underserved populations. I would continue advocating for thoughtful long-range planning, practical zoning solutions, and partnerships that expand housing opportunities. I believe every resident deserves the opportunity to live safely and affordably in our community.

How would you make yourself accessible to constituents outside your existing personal and professional circles, and how would you ensure their concerns are heard?

I believe serving on council means listening to everyone, not just those I already know. I would encourage residents to contact me directly, attend public meetings, and share concerns through multiple channels. I would make a sincere effort to listen without assumptions, seek out perspectives that may otherwise go unheard, and bring those concerns to the council table.

When residents have strongly opposing views on an issue before the council, how would you approach making a decision?

I would listen respectfully to all sides, consider the facts and long-term consequences, and evaluate how each decision affects the entire community. My background in education and public service has taught me the importance of fairness, preparation, and thoughtful decision-making. Ultimately, I would strive to make the decision that best serves Murray’s residents while being a responsible steward of public resources.
