MISD celebrates Kentucky 2025-2026 accountability results

Posted

Murray Independent School District is proud to celebrate our students, staff, and entire school community in the latest release of Kentucky Accountability data for the 2025-2026 school year.

All schools in the Murray Independent School District - Murray Elementary, Murray Middle, and Murray High - received the highest possible overall rating for the 2025-2026 school year and were rated as “Blue” schools.  Murray Independent School District is one of only three districts in the state to have a Blue rating at all three levels - elementary, middle, and high - and one of only two districts in the state to have every school in the district receive a Blue rating.  In multiple areas/indicators Murray Independent Schools rank at the top of the list for student performance and success both in our Western Kentucky region and the state of Kentucky.  Murray Independent is incredibly proud of each school for their performance on the state assessments and other indicators in this year's accountability system.

Under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) and state statutes, Kentucky Schools are held accountable for a combination of academic and school quality indicators and measures known as indicators.  The state indicators include: state assessment results in Reading & Math, state assessment results in Science, Social Studies and Writing, English Learner Progress, Quality of School Climate and Safety, Postsecondary Readiness (high school only), and Graduation Rate (high school only).  For each state indicator there are five “Status Ratings” ranging from very high to very low and five “Change Ratings” from increased significantly to declined significantly.  In addition, an Overall Performance Rating is determined by combining performance in the state indicators based on both Status and Change.

In indicators related to academic performance including Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies & Writing, all three schools performed “Very High”, or the highest level of performance.  Murray High also received a performance level of “Very High” in the area of Postsecondary Readiness which measures student readiness both in academics and career preparation.   Finally, Murray High School’s SAT composite average for the 2026 Junior Class was 1033, the highest average in the Western Kentucky region, the 6th highest District average in the state, and the 7th statewide among all public high schools.

David Meinschein, Murray Independent School District Superintendent, stated “Achieving excellence is difficult. Sustaining it year after year is even more difficult. Yet, that is exactly what we have come to expect at Murray Independent. This year’s exceptional accountability results across every grade span are a testament to the extraordinary efforts of our students, teachers, and staff. I could not be prouder of their accomplishments. These results also reflect the collective commitment of our Board of Education, families, and community, whose continued support makes this level of success possible. At Murray Independent, excellence is more than a tradition. It is who we are.”
