Thanks for reaching out to my opponent and myself in giving us a chance to reach out to voters here in Calloway County and more specifically those in the 4th district. A little about myself, I'm a Veteran wanting to serve, and I also own a small business in our county with 7 employees.
I'm on the ballot November 3rd for several reasons, but it boils down to I believe we can do better. Having been a resident of Calloway County for over 40 years, Ive watched us lose services, public land, roadways and hand out no bid contracts to ''Good ole Boys'' at higher prices than legit bids from other local companies all while our taxes have increased substantially. We also have record turnover at many of our departments along with a record number of lawsuits against our county.
It's not all doom and gloom here in Calloway County, but I think we can all agree we can do better. My opponent has a famous name and a good man from what I gather but that alone does not make a good Magistrate. Please take a minute to see where we both stand on issues I cannot find much on my opponent but give me a call/text to 720-917-3416 or check out Tabers for Magistrate on Facebook or my YouTube channel Coldwater to find out more about myself. Thanks for your consideration and please vote on November 3rd!
What concerns or needs of residents in the 4th District do you believe are not receiving enough attention from county government?
The 2 biggest things I have heard in my travels talking to residents in our district have been the trash issue and Noise pollution in some of our more densely residential areas. Utilizing more litter abatement programs in our district along with enforcing the cover trash ordinance we currently have. It's a problem due to the fact Murrays trash transfer station is in the 4th district so every bit of trash from Murray and the entire county flows through our district.
As for the Noise in residential areas its a bit more challenging but I'm sure we can utilize current tools to reduce this issue. If not, we can investigate more options such as noise ordinance in areas with over 10 houses from 10pm to 6am or something along those lines.
How would you balance the needs of your district against those of the county as a whole when making decisions as a member of the Fiscal Court?
Having a voice and a vote on the Fiscal Court is a great responsibility. First and foremost, I believe that supporting all our elected officials and getting them the tools to succeed is paramount. Taking the initiative to be informed on issues involving the whole county is also something I feel we have been lacking in our local government that I will try to fix or at least improve.
How would you keep residents informed about Fiscal Court decisions and give them opportunities to share their concerns before important votes?
There are a few ways to accomplish this; other candidates and I included would like to move the Fiscal Court meetings to a more accessible time, so more residents have the chance to attend. Second, Ive already been in talks with some small business owners in our community to host a small-town hall meeting for our district so I can listen and share concerns with residents. Third, I will push to get the meetings video recorded and shared in a timely manner. I will also attempt to share a more detailed transcript and would like to work with more media outlets such as The Murray Sentinel to help get this information out.
