MURRAY – The Park Budget Committee has been working on the park budget the past several months trying to anticipate the revenue and expenses for next year. The budget we have today includes the same amount of revenue from the County’s budget as in previous years. Since the County deeded their 50% ownership to the City in 2021, they have included at least $90,000/year in their budget to help operate the Park.
Our Park Director was informed last week by a member of the Fiscal Court that this item is not in the budget presented to them for next year. The City has, over the years, made numerous improvements to the Park including repairing the swimming pool, new lights at the soccer complex, new lights at all of the baseball fields, a new concession stand at the Baseball four-plex, in addition to working with the Murray Pickleball Association to install pickleball courts and a new parking lot.
Because the County continued its financial contribution each year, the City has continued to operate as the Murray-Calloway County Park, and residents of Calloway County have continued to be welcome to use the park and its amenities and programs in the same manner as before the City assumed full ownership. It is our intent to continue to allow every citizen in our County to use the park even though the County leadership has chosen not to support us.
It has been with the help of numerous donations from our businesses and residents that the progress made has been accomplished.
If the information we received is accurate, we will amend the budget for the second reading.
