At The Murray Sentinel, we believe a strong community depends on access to trustworthy, independent local reporting. We cover the institutions that shape daily life here โ local government, schools, healthcare, public safety and more โ with a focus on transparency, accountability and context.
As a nonprofit newsroom, we rely on community support to do this work: reporting that holds power accountable, explains complex issues and keeps neighbors informed about the decisions that affect their lives.
That support is making a real difference. Over the past two years, The Sentinel has experienced rapid audience growth and a meaningful increase in community investment. Our annual fundraising revenue grew from $25,876 in 2024 to $35,173 in 2025, reflecting a growing belief that local news is worth sustaining.
That growth was strengthened by broad community participation, including local partnerships. During the most recent year-end campaign, Blalock-Coleman Funeral Home and Cremation Services, CFSBank, The Murray Bank, Payton & Associates and Murray-Calloway County Hospital each contributed $1,000 in local matching funds to bolster individual donations.
This momentum allows us to expand coverage, pursue deeper investigations and strengthen our role as a watchdog for the community โ while keeping our reporting free and accessible to everyone, without paywalls or political influence.
If you believe local journalism is essential to a healthy community, we invite you to contribute to The Sentinel today and help sustain the reporting, accountability and access to information our community depends on.
