Tigers advance to state 3A championship game

MURRAY – After prevailing over Lloyd Memorial in the state class 3A semifinals Friday, 27-20, the undefeated Murray High School football team is topping off its record-breaking season with a trip to the championship game.

While the Tigers won over the Lloyd Memorial Juggernauts in Erlanger last night, the Christian Academy Centurions stomped the Bell County Bobcats, 56-20, in Louisville. Now, the Tigers will take on Christian Academy-Louisville, also 14-0 this season, at noon on Saturday, Dec. 6, at Kroger Field in Lexington.

In the 120-year history of the school’s football program, only two teams have ever won a state championship – first in 1961 and again in 1974. But no Tiger team has advanced to the final round since 1994. Regardless of the outcome next week, this season’s team will leave their mark in history as the first to ever win 13 games in one season.

When the Tigers rolled out on Thursday, dozens upon dozens of fans took a break from Thanksgiving festivities to send the team off, filling the parking lot outside of the MHS football field house.
