MCCH to host suicide awareness event: ‘Hope & Healing’ (Press Release)

MURRAY – In recognition of Suicide Prevention Month, Murray-Calloway County Hospital (MCCH) will host a special community event titled “Hope & Healing: A Community Conversation on Suicide Awareness” on Tuesday, September 23, beginning at 3 p.m. in the Murray Room located within the CFSB Center (Entrance A).

The event is a collaboration between MCCH and local psychologist Dr. Abby Dowdy, aiming to raise awareness about suicide, reduce stigma surrounding mental health, and connect the community with critical prevention resources.

“Our goal is to open the conversation, support those affected, and help our community know they are not alone,” said Dr. Abby Dowdy. “Every life matters, and together we can foster hope and healing.”

The afternoon will include a keynote address by Dr. Abby Dowdy, a moment of remembrance, and question and answer session. Attendees will also have access to a resource fair with local organizations offering support, information, and services.

A moment of silence will honor those lost to suicide and offer support to families and friends impacted by such loss.

This free event will feature a learning session with Dr. Abby Dowdy, which begins at 3:30 p.m. with a Q&A session to follow.

Mental health support will be available on-site for anyone in need during the event. All are welcome, including individuals, families, educators, healthcare workers, and community partners.
